In 2008, ethical beauty retailer The Body Shop expanded its unique Community Trade programme to include coconut growers from Samoa.

In addition to receiving a fair wage, the producers and their families are able to improve their self-esteem and their involvement in the community all while building a livelihood that supports their communities.

WIBDI recognises that the beauty of organics and fair trade lies in the fact that value is added at the farm gate, giving the farmer maximum benefits. We thank The Body Shop for building their business by empowering vulnerable people around the world, and contributing to efforts to alleviate and eradicate poverty in such a sustainable way.

Throughout the years, The Body Shop has proved its reputation as a company with a strong moral grounding and provided ongoing support to WIBDI’s coconut oil producers.

In 2010, 22.7 tons of organic coconut oil was exported to The Body Shop.
